Ruben joined FIU in 2007 as a freshman and earned his Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration. During his undergraduate years, he worked at the Undergraduate Admissions Office as a tour guide, sparking his interest in the field of Higher Education. Ruben then earned his Master’s degree in Higher Education and served as a Graduate Assistant in Career Services. He later worked with OneStop Enrollment Services and then was hired at the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine as a coordinator for the Office of International Affairs. In 2015, he began his career as an Academic Advisor for the School of Education and Human Development. In his free time, he enjoys traveling, working out and cooking.

Hayat has been working in FIU since 2006 in different departments and has been an academic advisor since 2012. She is a double alumnus from the University, she has a Bachelors in International Relations and a Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration from FIU. When she is out of the office, she enjoys spending time with her family and traveling. Her favorite part about her job is being able to see how much of a difference can be seen in academic improvement as a result of the connection between advisor and advisee.

Senior Academic Advisor
Roma has been with FIU and the School of Education and Human Development (SEHD) since 2000 in various Administrative positions. She began at the SEHD Advising Center in 2004 where she is now an Academic Advisor. Roma holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from FIU where she developed a passion for assisting students with accomplishing their academic goals. She is also the Teacher Certification Coordinator assisting prospective teachers with meeting the State’s certification requirements. Roma loves to travel and spend time with family.

Cynthia is a two-time alumna of FIU and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health. Throughout her time as a student, Cynthia gained knowledge of the university by working for the College of Business. She previously worked as a Mental Health Therapist and as an Academic Advisor at Miami-Dade College. Cynthia returned to FIU in 2014 as an Academic Advisor for the School of Education and Human Development, and is passionate about helping students reach their potential. In her free time, Cynthia enjoys trying new restaurants, watching movies, and spending time with family and friends.

Courtney is from New Jersey and earned her bachelor’s degree in English from Rutgers University. She worked as a writer and editor before attending FIU for her master’s degree in Higher Education Administration. Courtney served as Graduate Assistant in Undergraduate Education and helped coordinate FIU’s Freshman Common Reading Program. After moving back to the Northeast to work at a medical school, Courtney realized she missed FIU too much. She returned in November 2015 and is thrilled to be advising students in the School of Education and Human Development. She enjoys relaxing at the beach and hanging out with her dog.

Academic Advisor, Online Programs
Sonssire is a two-time alumna of FIU and earned a Bachelor’s in Psychology and a Master’s in Higher Education Administration. She joined our team in 2015, as Academic Advisor for our online programs. Her areas of interest include developmental education, distance learning and working with students on academic warning/probation. Sonssire considers it important to encourage students to work hard, find their passion, and exercise dedication, in order to achieve their educational goals. In her free time, she enjoys traveling and photography.

Though a native New Englander, Jane has called Miami home for the past 20 years. Her wide range of experience in radio, television, and hospitality was invaluable when, in January 2006, she joined the School of Education and Human Development Advising Center team. Her organizational skills and attention to detail in overseeing and managing the day-to-day operations of the Center have proven essential. Jane continues the pursuit of her Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies along with her love of traveling the world.
